In order to celebrate the 50th birthday of Master Hongyi, Feng Zikaia drew 50 paintings on the theme of protecting life beings. Master Hongyi made inscriptions and raised funds for the publication of Protection for Living Beings. In February, the collection was printed and distributed by the Kaiming Publishing House .
In January, the Kaiming Publishing House started a magazine named Middle School Student, Feng Zikai working as its art editor.
On February 3rd, Mr. Feng's mother died of an illness. Since the end of mourning period, Mr. Feng had gotten a beard.
In autumn, he quit teaching due to typhoid fever and moved to Jinming Temple in Willow Bay, Jiaxing to recuperate, where he took Bao Huihe (1912-1969) as his disciple.
In January, Kaiming Publishing House published Mr Feng's first collection of essays, Yuan-Yuan Tang Sui Bi.
In April, Feng Zikai's translation of First Love, which was his earliest translated novel, was published by and Kaiming Publishing House.
In September, Kaiming Publishing House published Mr. Feng's book Comics About Students' Life.
Master Hongyi introduced Master Guangqia (1900-1994) of South Putuo Temple in Xiamen to Mr. Feng. He painted the statue of Sakyamuni for Master Guangqia and since then, they had developed a heartfelt friendship.
In January, Comics About Children made by Mr. Feng was published by the Kaiming Publishing House.
In spring, the Yuanyuan Hall was constructed in Mr. Feng's hometown, Shimen Bay.
In April, Kuang Husheng, founder of Lida Middle School, passed away. After his death, the educational philosophy of the school altered against his, so he no longer concerned himself with school affairs.
In autumn, Master Guangqia invited Mr. Feng to make a statue for Master Hongyi, while he himself wrote Buddhist verses and sent them to his friends.
He applied himself to translation and plied back and forth to Shanghai, Hangzhou and Shimen Bay.
In January, Feng Zikai was hired as a special contributor to the Literary Quarterly. In September, he was hired as a special contributor to the semi-monthly issue of Taibai.
In August, Tianma Publishing House published his work Twenty Desultory Essays. In November, his work Artistic Interest was published by Kaiming Publishing House.

On March 25, the Remuneration of Zikai Color Cartoon was issued in the "Shendaily·Free Talk".
Shanghai Liangyou Picture Printing Company published Feng's book, Essays on Art, in April, and issued his essay, Carriage Society, in July. Later, his Images of Human Beings was published by Kaiming Publishing House in August; Tianma Publishing House published his album of painting, Clouds, in April and his Voice of Metropolis came out in September.
In January, Kaiming Publishing House started a new magazine New Youth, inviting Mr. Feng to edit and write essays.
In June, he joined the Chinese Artists Association. In October, they issued the "Declaration on Solidarity and Freedom of Speech in the Literary and Art Circles".
The third issue of Shanghai comics was published on July 5, publishing "Shanghai Times Comics: Chinese National Cartoon Exhibition Collecting Works", in which Feng Zikai was listed as one of the organizers.
In January, the Kaiming Publishing House published Continuation of Yuanyuan Hall.
In April, Feng Zikai went to Nanjing to attend a meeting about art research.
On November 6, Shimen Bay was raided, so he led the whole family to take refuge in Nanshenbang, where her brother-in-law lived. After that, the family moved to Shanghuang village by the Tonglu River, and often went to Tangzhuang in Yangshanfan to visit Ma Yifu (1883-1967).
At the beginning of 1937, Mr. Feng stood in front of the Fengtongyu dyehouse in Shimen.
On May 4, Mr. Feng served as the editorial board member and designed the cover of the Anti-Japanese War Literature, journal of the All-China Association of Literary and Artistic Circles Against the Enemy, the predecessor of All-china's Writers Association. In September 1938, he wore clothes with Guangxi features in Guilin.
He teaches art education and appreciation in Zhejiang University. In August, due to the invasion of the Japanese army in Nanning, teachers, students and staffs of Zhejiang University were evacuated respectively.
On March 25, the remake of Cartoons of the True Story of Ah Q was completed and later it was published by Kaiming Publishing House in June.
In November, 60 paintings of "Continuation of Protection for Living Beings" were completed, and Mr. Feng promised Master Hongyi that he would keep painting till Master Hongyi's 100th birthday.
He continued to serve as a lecturer and art director of Zhejiang University. He lived in Duyun, Guizhou for about a month. Later, he moved to Zunyi in northern Guizhou, with the school. Soon he went to Xiong's house in Nantan Lane near Shiziqiao, where he named his room "Xinghan Tower (Milky Way Tower)".
In April, a Japanese version of "Yuan-Yuan Tang Sui Bi", which was translated by Kojiro Yoshikawa (1904-1980), was published by the Japanese Sogensha Publishing Company.
In November, "Continuation of Protection for Living Beings" was published by Kaiming Publishing House.
In the "Xinghan Tower", he repainted his old work and compiled them into six volumes, naming Zikai Cartoon Collection.
He still taught in Zhejiang University, teaching new literature. In Autumn, he promoted to Associate Professor.
On October 13, Master Hongyi passed away in Quanzhou.
In November, he was appointed professor and educational director by Chen Zhifo, President of Chongqing National Art college (Art College).
In late November, the first personal exhibition of Feng Zikai was held in Fuzichi, Chongqing, displaying colorful figure and landscape paintings created since his evacuation. At the same time, Mr. Feng published "Preface to the Exhibition", explaining the process of his transfer from black and white simple-brush cartoons to colorful figure and landscape paintings.
In January, he started to create 100 statues of Master Hongyi. In March, he wrote "Introducing Master Hongyi for Young People" in memory of his mentor.
From February to April, he traveled Luzhou, Wutongqiao and Leshan in Sichuan, and visited Ma Yifu and Zhu Guangqian and other friends.
In summer, he rented land in Shapingba, and self-built "Shaping Cottage". Since then, he had quit his job in the art college, and made a living by selling paintings.
He sent a painting to his student Bao Huihe and hold a "Joint Exhibition of Feng and Bao" in Xi'an and Luoyang.
From February to March, he traveled Changshou, Fuling and Fengdu in Chongqing with his youngest daughter and held personal exhibitions there.
In Winter, he traveled the North of Sichuan, holding personal exhibitions in Nanchong and Langzhong.
In June, Wanguang Publishing House published Teachers' Diary.
The printing factory of Chongqing Central Trust Bureau printed a military mail drawn by Feng Zikai.
On June 1, he attended the design meeting of Kaiming Publishing House. On June 15, he went to Longchang to attend the 20th anniversary of Lida College and held a personal exhibition from June, 23 to 26.
In July, he went to Chengdu to attend a handicraft seminar of the International Relief Committee and hold an exhibition.
On August 10, Japan surrendered. For this, Mr. Feng made several works and inscribed the date August 10 on them.
From November 1 to 7, a personal exhibition of Feng Zikai was held at the Social Service Office of Lianglukou in Chongqing. Invited by Chen Wangdao, he gave a speech at Fudan University in Beibei District.
In December, Zikai Cartoon Collection, a total of six volumes, was published by Shanghai Kaiming Publishing House.
In January, in Shapingba, Native Association of Qixinggang Jiangsu held a continuing exhibition for him.
On April 23, his teacher Xia Mianzun passed away. On May 1, he wrote an article entitled "Mourning Mianzun".
After leaving Chongqing, he went to Mianyang, Hanzhong, Kaifeng, Wuhan and Nanjing during the KMT-CPC civil war, and held a personal exhibition in Wuhan to raise money for travelling expenses. In October, he arrived in Shimen Bay to visit the Yuanyuan Hall ruined in the war, and then took a rest in Zhaoxian Temple by the West Lake in Hangzhou.
In October, a personal exhibition of Mr. Feng was held in Daxin Company (now Shanghai No.1 Department Store) on Nanjing Road, Shanghai.
In December, Wanye Publishing Store published Mr. Feng's first color cartoon collection, Selected Zikai Cartoons.
In February, an exhibition was held in Shanghai to raise funds for the resumption of Lida College. After that, Feng Zikai went to Nanjing and Wuxi to hold personal exhibitions. In the same year, a charity sale of cartoons was held for the reconstruction of Shiwan Primary School in his hometown.
On March 11, Feng Zikai moved into the "Lakeside Cottage" on Jingjiang Road (now Beishan Road) in Hangzhou.
He was invited to participate in the exhibition held by Zhejiang Art Association and Provincial Museum of Mass Education.
On New Year’s Day, his remuneration was adjusted again in April, June and August respectively.
On September 28, he went to Taipei’s Zhongshan Hall to hold a solo exhibition With Feng Yiyin, and then visited Mount Ali and Sun Moon Lake. On the evening of October 13, he delivered a radio speech on the topic of "Chinese art" on Taipei radio.
In November, he went from Taiwan to Xiamen and met with Master Guangqia at Nanputuo Temple in Xiamen. He visited the site where Master Hongyi made lectures and died and drew a cartoon entitled "Today, I Visit Where My Dear Teacher once Stayed". At the invitation of Xiamen Buddhist Association and Xiamen University, he also delivered speeches entitled "Me and Master Hongyi", "The Spirit of Art" and "Art in a Broad Sense".
He stayed home for three months to complete the Protection for Living Beings (Volume 3). In April, he went to Hong Kong to invite Ye Gongchuo (1881-1968) to write an inscription for his work.
On March 1, he changed his way of obtaining remuneration to "paintings for rice".
In April, he went to Hong Kong and held three solo exhibitions, including: from April 15 to 16, at St. John’s Chapel on Huayuan Road; from 19 to 20, at the Sihao Hotel; From 21 to 22, at Pui Ching Middle School in Kowloon. (He also delivered a speech on "Young People's Artistic Accomplishment" there. On April 23, He returned to Shanghai by air.
On July 4, in order to avoid bombing, he temporarily moved to the upper floor of Wanye Publishing House on Nanchang Road and created "Paintings of Lu Xun’s Novels".
On January 23, he moved to the old house of Zhang Xichen (1889-1969), owner of Kaiming Publishing House, on Fuzhou Road, and began to learn Russian.

In July, he attended the Second Meeting of the East China Military and Political Committee and the First Congress of Literary and Artistic Workers in Shanghai as a nonvoting delegate.

He began to read Turgenev’s (1818-1883) Sportsman’s Sketches and Tolstoy’s (1828-1910) War and Peace in Russian.
In late December, he finished the translation of Sportsman’s Sketches.
He engaged in translating music and art works, publishing Teaching Method of Painting at Primary and Secondary School and other books.
On April 7, he was appointed member of the Affairs Committee of Shanghai Culture and History Research Museum.
In September, he raised funds with Qian Juntao (1907-1998), Zhang Xichen, Ye Shengtao (1894-1988) and other people to build a dagoba for Master Hongyi in the back hill of Hupao, Hangzhou.
He served as Executive Director of China Artists Association and Vice Chairman of Shanghai Artists Association (former East China Artists Association).
On January 10, the dagoba of Master Hongyi was bulit.
In August, he suffered from tuberculosis and pleurisy. After recovering from illness, he moved to South Shanxi Road. Because the second floor was bright, he named it "Riyue Tower (Sun and Moon Tower)." Mr. Feng settled there until he passed away.
In February, he edited and compiled Selected Zikai Cartoons and wrote a preface. The book was published by the People’s Fine Arts Publishing House in November.

Beijing Foreign Languages Publishing House published Feng Zikai's Children Cartoon in English, German and Polish.
In December, he was elected Shanghai municipal people's representative and attended the conference.
The People's Literature Publishing House has successively published the Russian novel "The History of My Contemporary (Volume 1 to 4)", which was translated by Feng Zikai and his daughter Feng Yiyin. In November, the Yuan-Yuan Tang Sui Bi re-compiled by Mr. Feng came out.
He served as a member of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and director of the Shanghai International Studies Association.
He worked as a consultant for the bimonthly magazine, Music Translation.

In summer, Feng Zikai became the editorial member and editor-in-chief of the art sub-volume of Cihai, a word dictionary in a new edition published by Zhonghua Book Company.
Taking Mao Dun's novel "The Shop of the Lin Family (Lin Jia Pu Zi)" as his source, he made ten plot pictures and published them in Wenhui Daily.
