Feng Zikai (1898-1975), a native of Shimen Prefecture, Tongxiang Town, Zhejiang Province, China, is a famous modern painter, writer, calligrapher, translator, art and music education theorist, and book binding designer. He is known as “the most sampled artist in modern China” and “the founder of modern manhua (Chinese comics)”. He was taught by accomplished scholars, such as Li Shutong and Xia Mianzun.
In November 1934, the Kaiming Publishing House published Feng’s Interesting Talks on Arts, a collection of essays. It included an original article entitled “Aesthetic Education”, in which he said, “In my opinion, one’s life is to create value. We search for knowledge to create truth. We exhort people to create benevolence. And we pursue art to create beauty. To create a world that is more real, better and more beautiful is our purpose.”

In order to further inherit and carry forward Mr. Feng Zikai’s idea of “aesthetic education”, continue, inherit and spread his spirit of aesthetic education, and give full play to the positive role of culture and art in enlightening thoughts, warming hearts and shaping life, Dr. Feng Yu, the grandson of Feng Zikai and President of “Feng Zikai Research Institute (Shanghai)” officially launched the “Feng Zikai Foundation（TK Foundation)” in Hong Kong in February 2021.
