With money raised by Master Guangqia, Protection for Living Beings (Volume 4) was published by Singapore Campaka Hall at the beginning of 1961.
In May, Mr. Feng was elected chairman of Shanghai Artists Association and vice-chairman of China Federation of Literary and Art Circles in Shanghai.
In autumn, the documentary "Painter Feng Zikai" was made by the Central Studio of News Reels Production.

From November to December, Master Guangqia went back to China for sightseeing. Feng Zikai accompanied him during his visit to Suzhou and Hangzhou, and wrote a poem entitled Farewell to Master Guangqia before they parted.

The Cultural Revolution in China began. In June, the first Dazibao criticizing Mr. Feng appeared in the Chinese painting Academy in Shanghai. Due to this, he was forced to "conduct self-criticism" in the painting academy.
On August 16, he was criticized and denounced at Huangpu Theater. Meanwhile, the Report on Criticizing Feng Zikai was published. After that, he was held in Shanghai Art School for ten days.
On March 14, the "Rebels" attacked the Shanghai Painting Academy. Feng Zikai was insulted and dared not contact Master Guangqia for nearly two years.
He was "confined in a derelict house" at the Shanghai Museum. From the autumn to winter, he was taken to Caoxing Commune near the port in the suburbs of Shanghai and engaged in agricultural activities as a member of the civil construction team.
In December, he returned to Shanghai with others.
In his illness, he wrote Poems of Red Mansions, and translated Japanese classical literary works Ochikubo-monogatari and Taketori monogatari.
He rearranged cartoons that were made under his favourite theme into a complete set and named it The name is: Treasure of Myself.

In March, accompanied by his student Hu Zhijun (1921-2005), he went to Hangzhou to visit his sister Feng Man (1891-1975).
Sequal toYuanyuan Hall was finalized in Hangzhou and Mr. Feng handed it over to his son, Feng Xinmei, before his death.

In spring, his paintings were once again displayed in the "Exhibition of Deprecating Paintings" during the "Criticizing of Lin Biao and Confucius" movement.
On August 13, he suffered from asthma and became better after taking some medicine.
From April 12 to 22, accompanied by Hu Zhijun and his daughter Feng Wanyin, Feng Zikai went to his hometown, Shimen Bay, to visit his sister Feng Xuezhen (Xue Xue).
In early August, the numbness gradually grew from his right finger to the right arm. At the same time, he had persistent fever and people initially thought that he had a stroke. On August 15, the bad news of his sister Feng Man's death coming, he was inconsolable, which caused an aggravation of the condition.
On September 2, through chest radiography examination in Shanghai Huashan Hospital, he was diagnosed with lung cancer at the apex of the right upper, which had metastasized to his brain. On September 15, Mr. Feng died in the emergency observation room of Shanghai Huashan Hospital.
On September 19, an obituary was issued by the Shanghai Painting Academy and a memorial service was held in the hall of Longhua Crematorium.
On June 5, the CPC party committee of the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture made a review of Feng Zikai's case. It decide to overturn the original conclusion and rehabilitate his reputation.
On June 28, the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Culture, the Shanghai Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy held a ceremony for placing his ashes in the Shanghai Martyrs Cemetery.
In October, Master Guangqia collected and printed Protection for Living Beings (Volume 6), which was published by Hong Kong Times Books Co., Ltd.
From May 9 to 22, the Shanghai Art Gallery held an exhibition of Feng Zikai's works.
On September 15, the 10th anniversary of Feng Zikai's death, the Yuanyuan Hall was rebuilt at the original site in Shimen Town and Master Guangqia attended the inauguration ceremony in person.
On September 17, Master Guangqia donated the six volumes of Protection for Living Beings to Zhejiang Provincial Museum for free and they hold a donation ceremony.
In December, the Great Hall of Singapore held a "Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition of Feng Zikai's Works".
