Performed by the Beijing Chinese Orchestra, the “Chinese Music and Cartoon” concert took stage at the Beijing Concert Hall on November 28, 2020. It was also the 5th anniversary of the founding of the Beijing National Orchestra. Therefore, in order to further spread and promote the Chinese music, the first Beijing Chinese Music Festival, taking plucked-string music as its theme, was hold to promote Chinese traditional culture and develop Chinese plucked-string instruments. All the works in this performance were newly created, most of which were composed based on Feng Zikai’s cartoons. Warm scenes, including the urban appearance of old Beijing city, daily-life images, street sights and anecdotes, children’s play and so on, that pictured by Feng Zikai in his cartoons were integrated into the six works that to be staged. These melodies, composed of different pictures and cultural fragments, finally formed the complete suite of the concert. Feng Zikai’s cartoons truly showed the most modest spiritual outlook and cultural elegant demeanour of the Chinese nation.
